Greetings from Snowy Colorado!
We are grateful for the early winter snow that has fallen in Aspen. Skiing has been terrific on the mountains and the cross country trails. We hope Mother Nature continues to shower us with much needed moisture this winter.
2013 was a wonderful year for our family. Michael continues to train and compete as a member of the United States Nordic Combined Ski Team. The 2014 season begins this week with three World Cup “B” races in Park City, Utah. We will be cheering from the sidelines! He is working hard to be named to the Olympic team that will compete in Sochi, Russia in February. Watch for the US Nordic Combined team during the Olympics they have a strong team and could do well in the Games.
Michael continues to take classes at Westminster College in Salt Lake City during the spring and summer. Can’t believe he will turn 21 next week!
Last winter we traveled to Austria, Italy and Slovenia to watch some of his competitions. Who knew that we would be following our son around the globe? We were very fortunate to be there and enjoy some of the wonderful cross country skiing. A highlight when we were in Italy was to visit and stay with the family of one of our Rotary exchange students. They “spoiled” us with their superb Italian food, including six courses, and wine and grappa!
Craig continues to coach for the Aspen Valley Ski Club Nordic Team, oversee some of the back country huts in our area, and sell real estate. A deer surprised him on his bicycle going 45 MPH last spring …luckily the bike and helmet took the worst of the fall. He was “back in the saddle” on a new bike by the end of the summer.
Becky loves her new position as Aspen Campus Manager for the Aspen Institute. She is learning a lot about managing art galleries, plus the large conference and hotel complex. And she still assists with scholarship and special events. She is pleased that the ACL repair to our dog “Trapper’s” knee was successful so he can hike and cross country ski with her.
We’ve enjoyed several “family” gatherings this year- with the Brown family over Thanksgiving to celebrate Charlie’s 50th birthday; a visit to Grafton Pond, NH with the deSieyes clan and new baby Isabelle; and a “father-son” deep sea fishing trip with the deSieyes cousins to Panama. Craig’s mother, Becky, is in good health and will celebrate her 92nd birthday this year.
We look forward to hearing from you, and wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and health and happiness in the New Year.
Love,
Becky & Craig
